How to define display driver during installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.

  • Asus F2A55-MLK motherboard

Issue

  • On installing the RHEL5.9 Client on new Asus F2A55-MLK motherboard video won't work
  • The install goes into text mode and system boots into text mode.
  • Some of the boot screens seem to be in graphical mode.

Resolution

  • The installation program does not run using its default settings, it tries to run in a lower resolution mode. If that still fails, the installation program attempts to run in text mode.
The driver= option to specify the driver that should be loaded for your video card.

  • To do this start your system with RHEL5.9 boot disk and on the boot: prompt specify the driver as mentioned below and Press Enter:

boot: linux driver=ati
