When the LUN is extended online, why the new size of the LUN is not getting reflected in multipath layer ?

Issue

After resizing a LUN online the new size is not getting reflected in multipath layer.
multipath device has been increased from storage side as could be seen in multipath -ll command output, however 'df' command still shows the old size of the filesystem.
