Why is kernel crash dump capture over NFS failing with RHEL6.4-based RHEV-H?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Failure to capture a vmcore of RHEV-H using NFS
  • I'm trying to get kerneldumps to NFS working, when I panic the system, it's telling it's generating a coredump, but none is created:
user@head02:/Volume01/kdump$ ls -lha
total 6
drwxr-xr-x 2 36 36 2 Apr 12 12:05 .
drwxr-xr-x 24 root root 24 Apr 12 11:02 ..

When I mount this directory myself on the RHEV-H system, I can write to it. I even changed the owner id to 36.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) 3.1
  • RHEV hypervisor (RHEV-H) rhev-hypervisor6-6.4-20130318.1.iso based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4; kernel-2.6.32-358.2.1.el6.
  • System requiring igb driver, e.g. Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Network Connection NICs.
