How to delete old/unused Docker images from the Openstack Nodes and the Director used as a local repository

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • RHOSP12 Director is configured as a local Registry for Openstack Nodes following the official Installation procedure for RHOSP12

  • After pulling the newest docker Images from upstream Red Hat, and after updating the undercloud and overcloud, old Images are never deleted and still use up storage space on both the overcloud nodes and undercloud.

  • The nodes have limited available storage space, which could lead to the inability to update them later on.

  • How can the unused docker images be deleted to reclaim the storage?

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenStack Platform 13.0 (RHOSP)
  • Red Hat OpenStack Platform 12.0 (RHOSP)
