Making changes in Hosts - Content Hosts - Host page, fails with error "An error occurred saving the Content Host: Name must not include periods" in Red Hat Satellite 6.

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6.3.x

Issue

  • While making any changes such as a change in the hostname or description field on Satellite Web UI -> Hosts -> Content Host -> Host page fails with error "An error occurred saving the Content Host: Name must not include periods".
  • Interface page shows "host.example.com.No Domain" message.

Resolution

  • Create a Domain (If it does not exist):
Satellite Web UI -> Infrastructure -> Domain -> Create Domain.
  • Assign Domain to the Interface:
Satellite Web UI -> Hosts -> All hosts -> Select the host and click on "EDIT" button -> Interfaces -> and click on "EDIT" button of the interface and assign the domain.

Root Cause

  • The Domain was not configured and assigned to the Interface.
