How can I perform a u32 match with ip6tables on RHEL5?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • IPv6
  • iptables matching hex data in packets with u32

Issue

  • How can I perform a u32 match with ip6tables on RHEL5?
  • Trying to match on IPv6 packet contents in RHEL5 results in an error message:
# ip6tables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp -m length --length 6:32 -m u32 --u32 "<rule>" -j DROP
ip6tables v1.3.5: Couldn't load match `u32':/lib/iptables/libip6t_u32.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Resolution

  • RHEL5's ip6tables does not have support for the u32 match.
If you require u32 matching in ip6tables, RHEL6 includes this support.
