How many virtual CPUs can be given to a Virtual Machine in Xen?
Issue
- Query on virtual cpu concept in Xen virtualization. There are 4 quad core processor in server (ie.total cores are 16). Processor options in hardware tab of virt-manager shows the following options.
How many virtual CPUs should be allocated to this machine.
current allocation 4
change allocation 4
Maximum allocation 32
Total CPUs on host machine 16
How did it calculate 32 cpus in maximum allocation? Does it mean, create Virtual Machines up to 32 processors utilisation? or 32 VMs with single processor each?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4
- Xen
