SCSI timeouts and RO Filesystem

Issue

• We are seeing an issue in production where the RHEL filesystem goes into a read only state after a SCSI timeout. These are virtual machines (VMWare) and the datastores are on NETAPP filers. We are trying to duplicate the issue in our test environment, but are unable to get the filesystems to go read only no matter how low we set the SCSI timeout. Is there an unspoken minimum for the timeout value, or a set number of retries that may override our settings?
