NFS mount options can be lost when using bg option on RHEL 5

NFS mount options can be lost when using the bg option: when a first attempt to mount an NFS filesystem fails and the mount options include the bg option, the mount is retried in the background until it succeeds. But then, when the mount finally completes, the rest of the specified mount options are not present.
