ifconfig and netstat programs return an error: error fetching interface information: Device not found

Issue

  • When trying to view network details with ifconfig or netstat, an error is returned instead:

    [root@localhost ~]# ifconfig -a
active: error fetching interface information: Device not found

[root@localhost ~]# netstat -i
Kernel Interface table
Iface      MTU    RX-OK RX-ERR RX-DRP RX-OVR    TX-OK TX-ERR TX-DRP TX-OVR Flg
active: error fetching interface information: Device not found
missing interface information: No such device
