I/O errors while using a FS on a eMMC drive

Issue

Running into I/O errors leading to a sharp performance drop of the eMMC drive while accessing the File System on the drive.

mmc1: Timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.
mmcblk1: error -110 sending stop command, original cmd response 0x0, card status 0x400900
mmcblk1: error -110 transferring data, sector 23796040, nr 1024, cmd response 0x0, card status 0x0
mmcblk1: response CRC error sending r/w cmd command, card status 0x900
...
blk_update_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk1rpmb, sector 0
blk_update_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk1rpmb, sector 0
