Gluster's root-squash option causes 'Input/output error'

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

We are facing "Input/output errors" on our gluster volumes when we enable the gluster's root-squash option:

$ mkdir test
mkdir: cannot create directory ‘test’: Input/output error

d?????????  ? ?            ?                        ?            ? test

This behavior occurs when we enable the "server.root-squash" flag in the volumes already created:

# gluster volume set glustervol server.root-squash on

We disabled the option and the problem stopped. But we need to enable this flag in order to prevent that root users of other system could access other user's data.
