Why Intel NIC is failing to load with error 'igb: probe of <bus-id> failed with error -3' ?

Issue

  • Following NIC- Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Fiber Network Connection [8086:1522] is failing to load at the time of system boot.
[157727.932528] igb: probe of 0000:81:00.0 failed with error -3
[157727.933709] igb: probe of 0000:81:00.1 failed with error -3
[157727.934879] igb: probe of 0000:81:00.2 failed with error -3
[157727.936049] igb: probe of 0000:81:00.3 failed with error -3
  • Kernel do have igb module for this NIC still unable to load.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4
  • kernel-3.10.0-693.17.1.el7.x86_64
  • Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Fiber Network Connection [8086:1522]
  • RHEL igb module version 5.4.0-k
