Starting sssd fails with "couldn't load the configuration database"

Issue

  • sssd Daemon won't start. SELinux prohibits sssd to start
  • From /var/log/messages

    Mar 21 10:02:42 hostname systemd[1]: Starting System Security Services Daemon...
    Mar 21 10:02:42 hostname sssd[24444]: SSSD couldn't load the configuration database [2]: No such file or directory.
    Mar 21 10:02:42 hostname systemd[1]: sssd.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=4/NOPERMISSION
    Mar 21 10:02:42 hostname systemd[1]: Failed to start System Security Services Daemon.
    Mar 21 10:02:42 hostname systemd[1]: Unit sssd.service entered failed state.
    Mar 21 10:02:42 hostname systemd[1]: sssd.service failed.
