Qpid broker uses a lot of memory

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Qpid broker memory usage grows at a fast rate and ends up using 10 GB to 15 GB in a few days at which time we have to restart it or it gets killed by the OOM killer. The brokers are clustered across 3 nodes in this environment but we see similar issues in other environment with 5 nodes. There are no messages on any queues. Most queues have a max limit of 50000 and a max size of 100M. The applications that access the messages from the queues in the broker read in batches of 1000 and send acknowledgement.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise MRG Messaging 2.5
  • qpid-cpp-0.18-39
