Smartd log warnings referencing unexpected output and no such file or directory

Issue

  • The Smartd monitoring tool displays the below warning log messages:
$ smartd[1412]: Warning via /usr/libexec/smartmontools/smartdnotify to root produced unexpected output (78 bytes) to STDOUT/STDERR: 

$ smartd[1412]: postdrop: warning: unable to look up public/pickup: No such file or directory

$ smartd[1412]: Warning via /usr/libexec/smartmontools/smartdnotify to root: successful
