No prompt defined when logging in to a RHEL from a Windows with ssh and authenticating with a smart card

Issue

We have noticed that $PS1 is not defined on your system and after having logged in, it is possible to get a prompt by running the bash command again.
For example:

$ ssh <USER>@<IP>
<USER>@<IP>'s password: 
Last login: Fri Mar  9 10:48:11 2018 from gateway
-bash-4.2# bash
[<USER>@<HOSTNAME> ~]#
