A stonith device fails to start/monitor with '-62 (Timer expired)' error when there is more than 64KB of output

Issue

  • A stonith device that outputs more than 64KB of data fails its start or monitor operation.
  • When verbose=1 is configured for fence_cisco_ucs, it sometimes causes the monitor or start operation to timeout with the message below:
Operation 'monitor' [xxx] for device 'test' returned: -62 (Timer expired)

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 or 8 (with the High Availability Add-on)
  • Affected package versions
    • RHEL 7: Versions earlier than pacemaker-1.1.20-5.el7
    • RHEL 8: Versions earlier than pacemaker-2.0.2-3.el8
  • A fence agent configured in verbose mode
