Automount not mounting new nfs shares when using NIS maps on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Automount of nfs directory is not working. Manually mounting the nfs share works.
  • ypcat is listing the auto.map for the new mount correctly, but its not being applied when automount is running:
    [root@server ~]# ypcat -k auto.newmap |grep -i mnt
    /mnt/share nfsserver.redhat.com:/export/share automount

  • Manual mount works ok:
    [root@server ~]# mount -l |grep -i mnt
    nfsserver.redhat.com:/export/share on /mnt/share type nfs (rw,addr=10.0.0.1)

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • NIS network directory client
  • automount configured with auto.master and auto.* maps served via NIS
  • NFS mounted shares that are defined by NIS maps.
