Tomcat service reports error with "lock file"

Issue

  • Running /etc/init.d/tomcat5 start returns ok but when performing /etc/init.d/tomcat5 status receive "lock file found but no process running for pid 23209"
    i.e:
# /etc/init.d/tomcat5 start
Starting tomcat5: [  OK  ]
# /etc/init.d/tomcat5 status
lock file found but no process running for pid 23209

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5
    • Tomcat 5
