All multipath devices have different wwids on each cluster node on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • We are seeing 2 different "uid's" for the same device on 2 different nodes sharing that device.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL5)
    • Issue observed on RHEL5 update 8. It is currently unknown if other updates are affected.
  • device-mapper-multipath
    • Issue observed on device-mapper-multipath-0.4.7-48.el5_8.1. It is currently unknown if other versions are affected.
    • There are no aliases configured in multipaths {} section of /etc/multipath.conf
    • Aliases have been customized in the bindings file at /var/lib/multipath/bindings (or at the new location if bindings_file is configured in multipath.conf).
    • There are no multipath files in the initrd file.
  • SAN storage shared between 2 different servers:

    • The wwid is different when read with the scsi_id command for the same device on different servers:
    node1# scsi_id -g -s /block/sdamf
    360060e80100ae4300530264b000002c3
    node2# scsi_id -g -s /block/sdfd
    360060e80100ae43000090010a28b02c3

    • SAN is a Hitachi DF600 model as per /proc/scsi/scsi:
    # cat /proc/scsi/scsi
    <some data omitted>
    Host: scsi5 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 275
Vendor: HITACHI Model: DF600F Rev: 0000
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 04
