Do we need to upgrade to the latest minor version of BPMS 6 before upgrading to the upcoming major version?

Issue

We currently have BPMS 6.x deployed, but we are not on the latest minor version. We are planning to upgrade to BPMS 7 when it becomes available. Are we required to upgrade/update our current 6.x version to the latest available minor release, prior to upgrading to 7?
