The warning messages like `mount: warning: /mnt/chroot/etc seems to be mounted read-write` are displayed on chrooted filesystem of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 while booting, Why?

Issue

  • Need to run a browser in a chrooted Environment. To create the chrooted environment, the following entries were put in /etc/fstab file.
/usr /mnt/chroot/usr none ro,bind 0 0 
/etc /mnt/chroot/etc none ro,bind 0 0 
/lib /mnt/chroot/lib none ro,bind 0 0 
  • During each boot process, following messages are displayed. And while running the mount command, they are mounted rw but not ro
mount: warning: /mnt/chroot/etc seems to be mounted read-write. 
mount: warning: /mnt/chroot/lib seems to be mounted read-write. 
mount: warning: /mnt/chroot/usr seems to be mounted read-write.
  • Is this an expected behaviour?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Chrooted Environment.
