After package upgrade, 'multipath -l' shows path status as 'unknown'

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After upgrading the device-mapper-multipath rpm to version 0.4.9-111.el7, multipath -l command shows unknown status for active paths:

    $ multipath -l mpatha
    mpatha (36001405d0b9a050efa544b58fe8de66f) dm-2 LIO-ORG ,file11
    size=500M features='0' hwhandler='0' wp=rw
    `-+- policy='service-time 0' prio=0 status=active
      `- 5:0:0:0 sdb 8:16 active undef unknown      <-----

  • Before a package update, dm-multipath was able to show correct path status:

    $ multipath -l
    mpatha (36001405d0b9a050efa544b58fe8de66f) dm-2 LIO-ORG ,file11
    size=500M features='0' hwhandler='0' wp=rw
    `-+- policy='service-time 0' prio=0 status=active
      `- 5:0:0:0 sdb 8:16 active undef running      <-----

  • This issue is observed only in multipath -l output and not in multipath -ll.
