Why the VMs are not starting when USB support is enabled?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Create vm on datacenter. Enable USB support --> Native mode.
  • Create template of same vm.
  • Export the template to export domain.
  • Import template to another DC.
  • Create vm from imported template(thin provisioned). It will start without any issue.
  • Shutdown it.
  • Again try to start the vm. Here it will fail with following error:
VM <vm name> is down. Exit message: internal error process exited while connecting to monitor: qemu-kvm: -device ich9-usb-ehci1,id=usb,bus=pci.0,addr=0x4.0x7: Duplicate ID 'usb' for device
