RHEL7.4: autofs expiry timer is no longer reset after 'ls', 'stat', 'df' or similar command that causes path_resolution on an autofs managed path

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

Starting with RHEL 7.4 (kernel 3.10.0-693.el7), autofs is expiring NFS v3 mounts after the configured autofs TIMEOUT, even when the mount is being intermittently accessed such as by doing an "ls" on a sub-directory of the mount or a "cat" of a file in a sub-directory of the mount every 10 seconds.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4
    • kernels 3.10.0-693.el7 and before kernel-3.10.0-693.21.1.el7
  • autofs
