Server Name Indication (SNI) issues with CXF

Issue

  • CXF clients often do not send the server_name header in the clientHello when performing SSL handshaking that is requires by Server Name Indication (SNI). This leads to the server not sending the correct SSL server certificate and possibly to SSL handshaking errors.
  • java.security.cert.CertificateException: No name matching <hostname> found with unexpected certificates presented from server

Environment

  • Apache CXF clients including in
    • Red Hat JBoss Fuse 6
    • Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6
