docker daemon is unresponsive to 'create container' requests from clients such as OpenShift or 'docker' CLI

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • docker daemon is unresponsive to 'create container' requests from clients such as OpenShift or 'docker' CLI
  • OpenShift shows pods that are stuck in state 'ContainerCreating'
  • OpenShift reports an error when deploying pods:

Error syncing pod, skipping: failed to "StartContainer" for "POD" with RunContainerError: "runContainer: operation timeout: context deadline exceeded"

  • Seeing an Error syncing pod on most of the deployments that are running on one of the OpenShift nodes. Unless the pods are deleted and recreated again, they are stuck in this mode.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4
  • docker-1.12.6-55.gitc4618fb.el7
  • OpenShift Container Platform 3.4, 3.5, 3.6
