Why I can't create image stream with underscore in name?

Issue

When create a new image stream in OpenShift Registry Console,I am unable to use underscores in the name.
We're attempting to create new image stream with name "my_imagestream" or "my_sample_is",but these are failing. If created using "-" instead of "_", this succeeds.
