/var/log/cups/error_log filled with "cupsdAuthorize: No authentication data provided"

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Last night /var/log/cups/error_log grew to 16GB. It was filled with millions of entries like

D [27/Aug/2021:14:91:62] cupsdAuthorize: No authentication data provided.

  • We need a clarification on following error:

    D [13/Jan/2022:18:01:02 +0000] [Client 13] No authentication data provided.
    D [13/Jan/2022:18:01:02 +0000] [Client 13] No authentication data provided.

This message appears in the /var/log/cups/error_log and is for an issue with the IPP protocol which we are not using. Why we are getting the error and what can be done about it. These messages occur every five minutes and more often during print runs and filling our log files very quickly.
