Why do I get a "Permission denied" error when enabling debug for the bonding kernel module?
Issue
-
I enable debugging for the bonding kernel module by adding
debug=1to theBONDING_OPTSvariable in the/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0(as documented in/usr/share/doc/kernel-doc-2.6.18/Documentation/networking/bonding.txtand at 42.5.2.1. in the RHEL5 Deployment Guide). -
After restarting the network, I get a "Permission denied" error message:
# service network restart
Shutting down interface bond0
Shutting down loopback
Bringing up loopback interface: OK
Bringing up interface bond0: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth: line 126: /sys/class/net/bond0/bonding/debug: Permission denied [ OK ]
