Live Merge failed with "Bad volume chain" errors

Issue

  • Live Merge (snapshot deletion) failed.

  • A subsequent attempt to create a new snapshot resulted in one disk being left in a locked state.

  • The specific error in the vdsm logs on the host on which the VM was running was Bad volume chain found for drive virtio-diskN.

Environment

  • Red Hat Virtualization (RHV) 4.1
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.3 hosts
