tftpd service unavailable when launched from xinetd

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • tftpd service unavailable when launched from xinetd
  • Would like to enable the tftpd service on 2 servers. Installed the rpm and configured the hosts.allow, /etc/xinetd.conf, and /etc/xinetd.d/tftp files
  • When attempting to transfer via tftp, it fails but only logs that it started the transfer, no errors.
  • If xinetd service disabled (*chkconfig tftpd off *) and launch ***in.tftpd** * manually ( ***/usr/sbin/in.tftpd -l -c -v -u bcan-xfer -s /home/bcan-** ****xfer** * ), it works fine.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Configured tftpd to launch via xinetd
