post_action calls to 3scale impacting gateway latency

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • The latency from the post_action authrep calls to 3scale have been observed to be creating additional overall latency on subsequent requests to the API Gateway by API consumers.
Below is an example scenario describing the behaviour observed:
  1. Request 1 Comes to API Gateway
  2. Request 1 is fulfilled by gateway and response from backend service is returned immediately to client
  3. Request 1 post action process is triggered and these post action processes may have slow/long running requests
  4. Request 2 is triggered before Request 1 post action process is completed
  5. Request 2 experiences slow performance and has to wait until the post action process from Request 1 is complete
  6. Request 2 client sees a performance impact to their response times
The situation is most noticeable when there is a long response time from 3scale for the post_action authrep and there is a subsequent API request from the same API consumer.
