Why it is not possible to use 'SHA512' hash for rootpw(root password) in Satellite kickstart profile ?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Root password(rootpw) of the hash is changed back to MD5 hash upon commit on Satellite Kickstart.

  • On a Satellite 5.3 and 5.4, if in a kickstart profile setting auth --passalgo=sha512 --enableshadow but disable MD5 then change the value of rootpw to SHA512 hash, the hash is changed back to MD5 hash upon commit.

  • Changing rootpw to SHA512 using Satellite API kickstart.profile.setAdvancedOptions does not work.

Environment

  • Red Hat Network Satellite 5.3
  • Red Hat Network Satellite 5.4
