grubby segfaults due to invalid read in libblkid in RHEL 5.9

Issue

  • grubby segfaults after installing two kernels on RHEL 5.9
  • Reproduced as follows on an x86_64 system with kernel 2.6.18-194.el5
    and mkinitrd-5.1.19.6-79.el5:
rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.18-348.el5.x86_64.rpm
rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.18-348.1.1.el5.x86_64.rpm

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.9
  • mkinitrd-5.1.19.6-79.el5
  • e2fsprogs-1.39-35.el5
