RHEL7: Outage in neigh_timer_handler or kmalloc-512 slab corruption

Issue

  • System crashed in neigh_timer_handler() due to bad pointers in neighbour struct.
  • System crashed due a bad value in a structure that is stored in the kmalloc-512 slab.
  • kmalloc-512 slab corruption described by kmem -s <addr> with:
kmem: kmalloc-512: slab: <kmemaddr> duplicate freelist object: <kmemaddr>

Environment

  • Red Enterprise Linux 7
    • Releases prior to 7.4
