Activation Key for VDC with zero subscription does not attach properly if custom subscriptions are added in Red Hat Satellite 6.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6.x
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Virtual Datacenters Subscription

Issue

  • Clients are not getting subscribed when using activation-key for VDC with custom subscriptions.
  • Systems are showing the following message when using Activation Key with custom subscription

    Installed Product Current Status:
Product Name: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server
    Status: Not Subscribed

Unable to find available subscriptions for all your installed products.

Resolution

  • Create Two Activation-keys:

    • a) One with no subscriptions (blank) and set Auto-Attach as Yes for VDC subscriptions.
    • b) Second one with custom subscriptions and set Auto-Attach as No.
  • Then use both activation keys while registering the system:

    # subscription-manager register --org="xxx" --activationkey="vdc","custom"
