UEFI based Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 doesn't boot after installation and throws error as "Error 24: Attempt to access block outside partition"

Issue

  • Installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 on "Dell PowerEdge R320" which is a UEFI enabled machine.
  • The disk available in the machine is of 4TB.
  • The installation went fine but just after reboot post installation, the system is not booting and throwing an error message as follows.
Error 24: Attempt to access block outside partition
  • Why does this error message appear on screen? Why the system is not booting?
  • Is there any issues with bootloader installation? Where to install bootloader? on UEFI partition or on MBR ?
  • What are the recommendations for the partitioning on UEFI based system?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3
  • UEFI Based hardware (e.g Dell PowerEdge R320)
  • Only disk available with size 4TB (or more than 2.1TB)
