Why Keepalived fails to start with error "Keepalived_vrrp: Cannot find an IP address to use for interface ethX" in RHEL 7?

Issue

  • With the latest version of Keepalived, If the VIP is assigned to an interface which does not have the physical IP address then we get the below error.
Keepalived_vrrp[30062]: (VI_1): Cannot find an IP address to use for interface ethX Keepalived_healthcheckers[7637]: TCP socket bind failed. Rescheduling" or "VRRP child process(20188) died: Respawning

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.
  • keepalived-1.3.5-1 and later.
