IPA install/upgrade times out because IPv6 is disabled.
Issue
- An enabled IPv6 stack in Linux kernel is a pre-requisite for IDM. Linux Domain Identity, Authentication, and Policy Guide clearly states:
IPv6 must be enabled on the system
Installing and running an IdM server requires IPv6 to be enabled on the network.
Note that IPv6 is enabled by default on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 systems.
- Bug 1404596 explicitly states that IPv6 is a requirement for IdM.
- The rhel8 docs say that "IPv6 does not have to be enabled on the network", but other sources say one needs an enabled IPv6 stack in Linux kernel. How does this fit together? Is "network" here relating to other systems communicating with the IdM systems?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7, 8 and 9
- Identity, Policy and Audit (IPA)
- IDentity Management (IdM)
