Issue

  • Changing password for NIS user from NIS server or NIS client gives this error with "yppasswd" -

NIS password could not be changed.
passwd: Failed preliminary check by password service

  • passwd,shadow and group files lies under /var/yp

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2
  • ypserv-2.19-3
  • yp-tools-2.9-0.1
  • ypbind-1.19-8.el5
