Why are filesystems not mounted in rescue mode whose filesystem type is mentioned as auto in fstab?

Issue

  • In the rescue mode, the filesystem with a type auto (defined in /etc/fstab) is not mounted automatically with the following error.
malformed: scanned format ( <filesystem type> ) differs from fstab format (None). 

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Anaconda
  • rescue environment
  • /etc/fstab has an entry with filesystem type as auto
/dev/mapper/testvg-testLV /var auto defaults 0 0
