mkfs.gfs or mkfs.gfs2 throws error "locktable error: missing colon in the locktable" in RHEL 5 or 6

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When trying to make a new GFS2 filesystem using mkfs.gfs2, the filesystem is not created and I get the following output error:
/builddir/build/BUILD/cluster-3.0.12.1/gfs2/mkfs/../libgfs2/libgfs2.h: locktable error: missing colon in the locktable
  • What is the correct syntax to create GFS2 filesystems?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 or 6 with the Resilient Storage Add On
  • Creating a GFS or GFS2 filesystem with mkfs.gfs or mkfs.gfs2
