Hosts goes out of network immediately after reboot with "netconsole" service in RHEL.

Issue

  • Frequently found few hosts to be out of network after the weekend reboot. We had to restart network service to bring back on-line.
  • We find SYN requests coming to this server from outside where no port is opened to LISTEN for it. But not finding any response going out. We expect a TCP deny/RESET messages. But nothing found.

  • netstat -s shows outgoing IP packets dropped:

    Ip:
    4272 total packets received
    0 forwarded
    0 incoming packets discarded
    4264 incoming packets delivered
    4390 requests sent out
    -> 1454 outgoing packets dropped <-

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (All Versions).
  • netconsole.
