Why does mkdir parent option (-p) doesn't use default umask for creating all folders

Issue

  • Unexpected behavior of mkdir in following scenario, when default acl is set
# mkdir -p directory name/sub-directory name
# mkdir directory name/sub-directory name
  • When default acl is set, mkdir parent option doesn't use default umask for creating all folders unlike with RHEL 7

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0
