RHEL6.9: skb_warn_bad_offload warnings after kernel upgrade

Issue

  • we have upgraded the RHEL server from 6.8 to 6.9. After OS upgrade, we started receiving the below kernel Tainted messages.
kernel: WARNING: at net/core/dev.c:1929 skb_warn_bad_offload+0x99/0xb0() (Tainted: G        W  -- ------------   )
kernel: Pid: 6047, comm: XXX Tainted: G        W  -- ------------    2.6.32-696.el6.x86_64 #1

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise 6.9
    • kernel-2.6.32-696.el6.x86_64
      • vmxnet3 NIC driver
  • nf_netfilter
    • nf_queue
  • Symantec Virus checker
  • Any application that uses nf_queue to gather skbs directly from the NIC into userspace.
