Unable to setup VXLAN tunnel when using ipv6.disable=1

Issue

  • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 systems, when booting with the ipv6.disable=1 kernel command-line option, VXLAN tunnels may not properly initialize.
  • Messages such as kernel: vxlan: Cannot bind port 4789, err=-97 may appear in dmesg and /var/log/messages

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • VXLAN Tunnel Infrastructure
  • In the ouput of /proc/cmdline the line ipv6.disable=1 is present or some other IPv6-disabling option is present.
