RHEL: vmxnet3 driver crash when ring buffers are increased

Issue

  • The network became halted after running "ethtool -G ethX rx 4096". When logging in to the machine via the console and restart the network the system crashed.
  • the "ip link set dev ethX up" command will also crash the system after the error has occurred.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3
    • vmxnet3
