How to set an exact engineID for snmpd

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • There is limited engineID modification parameters which are outlined in the snmpd.conf man page. SNMP v3 requires an SNMP agent to define a unique engineID in order to respond to SNMP v3requests. This ID will normally be determined automatically, using a combination of a pseudorandom number and the current time, in seconds. This generated value is then stored in the /var/lib/net-snmp/snmpd.conf file in hexadecimal format, identified as oldEngineID. This is the recommended approach however, there is limited ability to modify how the engineID'sare built.
